The Life of Chuck — Not all sci-fi looks like sci-fi

Science fiction takes many forms, not all that obvious to everyone.  Take for instance The Truman Show, an updated take on Philip K. Dick’s novel Time Out of Joint (althought they won’t admit it), or Kurt Vonnegut’s classic Slaughterhouse Five.  Somehow both of those science fiction stories seem to weave their way into the new movie The Life of Chuck, based on the novella by Stephen King.   In truth the trailer for the movie looks like a very sappy drama.  But the King name always brings the casting call, and this film has a hefty slate of top genre talent from past and present.  It stars Tom Hiddleston as the title character, plus Karen Gillan, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Matthew Lillard, Mark Hamill, Mia Sara, Carl Lumbly, Nick Offerman, David Dastmalchian, Rahul Kohli, Michael Trucco, Molly C. Quinn, Heather Langencamp, and Carla Gugino.  That’s a line-up to improve your Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon gameplay.
