First look — Spinal Tap 2: The End Continues

Last year when we previewed here at borg a set of retro action figures for Rob Reiner’s  beloved mockumentary, This is Spinal Tap, we couldn’t have guessed the band would be getting back together for another movie.  But here we are with a trailer for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues Christopher Guest is back as Nigel Tufnel, with Michael McKean as David St. Hubbins and Harry Shearer as Derek Smalls.  Reiner leads the rockumentary format again as director Marty DiBergi.

This time it looks like Reiner is taking advantage of our era of… senior… rock musicians looking back on their careers, providing a parody of recent retrospective documentaries like Yacht Rock and The Wrecking Crew.  As you’d expect from Reiner, look for some big celebrity cameos.  Paul McCartney and Elton John show up for the trailer, and is there really anyone bigger than that?  It also will be hard not to compare it to the trio’s famous movies together since the original mockumentary was released 41 years ago, like the unique humor in Best in Show and A Mighty Wind.

Straight from San Diego Comic-Con 2025, here’s the first trailer for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues:

Dial your amp up to eleven.  Spinal Tap II: The End Continues comes to theaters and IMAX September 1, 2025.
