
The annual Studio Ghibli summer film festival returns to theaters nationwide next month, and it brings with it an interesting selection of anime favorites. Seven films will be showcased this year, with the finale celebrating the 25th anniversary of the most celebrated film of them all, Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away. But other featured movies are celebrating big anniversaries, too. Castle in the Sky turns 40. The coming-of-age romance Only Yesterday turns 35. And Tales from Earthsea turns 20. The festival also features screenings of the adventure Ponyo, the 4K remaster of the sprawling fantasy Princess Mononoke, and could it really be Ghibli Fest without My Neighbor Totoro?
