Kenner returns to Star Wars Droids series for next toy line

A long time ago in a galaxy not so far away, an animated television series took place.  Star Wars Droids aired in 1985 and 1986, a series from the Dark Times, when fans of the franchise figured it was over for good and there was not any hope of another movie.  Considered non-canon even back then, it tracked stories prior to the original trilogy of the adventures of trusty droids R2-D2 and C-3P0.  A corresponding toy line featured a whopping twelve action figures, three vehicles, and two lightsabers–plus a scarce figure for the character Vlix that was only released in Brazil.

In 2022 Target stores and Target online, Kenner offered new versions with retro Star Wars Droids packaging featuring 3.75-inch scale Boba Fett, R2-D2, and C-3P0, plus a six-inch Kenner “The Black Series” style Boba Fett, all inspired by characters as seen in the animated series.  Four years later and Kenner is returning to those sculpts but with a new coordinated, carded six-inch action figure line featuring all four figures as part of its Black Series, and you can get in early to pre-order them all now here at Entertainment Earth.

First, a look back at the original line (an additional seven figures shown were never released):

The standard original figure line from Star Wars Droids consisted of R2-D2, C-3P0, Boba Fett, an A-Wing Pilot, Jann Tosh, Jord Dusat, Kea Moll, Kez-Iban, Sise Fromm, Thall Joben, Tig Fromm, and, of course, the affable Uncle Gundy.  Only Boba Fett and the A-Wing Pilot were re-packaged from the Power of the Force line, which makes this Boba Fett the first animated sculpt and paint job for the character.  They originally sold for $2.99.  Vehicles consisted of an A-Wing Fighter, an ATL Interceptor, and a Side Gunner.

Here are the new figures at Entertainment Earth–all come with vintage-style coins:

First up: animated series Boba Fett is available here:

Next is an R2-D2 with lots of accessories, available here:

And of course C-3PO, available here:

And finally, a great, well-articulated Stormtrooper complete with staff, available here:

Note: A Black Series Boba Fett in different packaging was released previously.

All four figures are available here at Entertainment Earth for pre-order now.  Both seasons of Star Wars Droids are streaming now on Disney Plus.
