The Midnight Sky–Clooney directs and stars in his next sci-fi movie

For his next project, George Clooney is directing and co-starring in an adaptation of Lily Brooks-Dalton’s novel Good Morning, Midnight.  Re-titled The Midnight Sky, the first trailer has arrived and the dystopian science fiction film looks like a mix of previous direct-to-Netflix projects The Cloverfield Paradox and IO, both mid-level sci-fi you probably wouldn’t want to pay to see in the theater.  Are audiences ready for another dreary take on Earth’s future?

This post-apocalyptic tale follows Augustine (Clooney), a scientist in the Arctic who races to stop Sully (Felicity Jones) and her fellow astronauts from returning home to Earth, where a mysterious global catastrophe has taken out much of the planet.  The movie co-stars David Oyelowo, Kyle Chandler, Demián Bichir, and Tiffany Boone.

The outer space sequences we get a peek in this trailer appear promising.

Here’s the trailer for Netflix’s The Midnight Sky:

The Midnight Sky lands on Netflix December 23.
