Retro fix–Stranger Things gets a Choose Your Own Adventure

Anyone who grew up in the 1970s, 1980s, or 1990s is familiar with the series of thin kids’ books with catchy titles and covers that could often pass for a video game cartridge design.  Choose Your Own Adventure books were many reluctant readers’ first opportunity to take the driver’s seat, to pilot a ship, or dig up buried treasure–as readers took over some of the decisions from the writers in determining the actions of a book’s protagonist.  In many ways the series was the first step into roleplaying games.  What 21st century franchise makes the most sense to combine with this series of books?  Netflix’s biggest retro fix series, Stranger Things, of course.  As fans of the show ready for a final season, they can journey to the dark side of Hawkins, Indiana, as a character.  Join Eleven, Dustin, Max, Lucas, and their friends as they explore Pennhurst Asylum, the creepy old Creel house, and possibly even the Upside Down.  It happens in Stranger Things: Heroes and Monsters, available here at Amazon now, promising 25 possible endings.

Check out a preview of the book below, targeted at middle grade to pre-teen kids.

You can order Stranger Things: Heroes and Monsters here at Amazon now.  Filming of Season 5 of the Netflix series is targeted for this summer, but expect a 2024 release.
