The Princess Bride–First look at the new line of action figures

Thirty-five years after Rob Reiner’s The Princess Bride earned an Academy Award nomination, in many moviegoers’ minds the best fantasy movie of them all remains a beloved classic—a thoroughly fun, romantic, exciting adaptation of William Goldman’s storybook come to life.  Even Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves got its own line of action figures and playsets, so it’s well past due the first wave of Princess Bride action figures compatible with Kenner classic 3 3/4-inch figures and vehicles is finally here.  You can now re-enact the duel between the Dread Pirate Roberts and Jedi Luke.

So if you were to pick the first five characters to be made into action figures, who would they be?  We think toy company Super7 got this right.  It’s Robin Wright’s Princess Buttercup, Cary Elwes’s Westley aka Dread Pirate Roberts, Mandy Patinkin’s Inigo Montoya, Andre the Giant’s Fezzik, and Wallace Shawn’s Vizzini the Sicilian.  They are all available for pre-order now as a group or individually here at Entertainment Earth.

Check out photos of Wave 1, including the storybook-inspired card art:

What scenes will you re-enact?

Super7 is always experimenting with its cardback styles.  Sometimes they get actor image rights, sometimes they don’t.  These cards match the style on the deck of playing cards (still available here) that were included in NerdBlock blind boxes a few years ago.

Here are the figures individually:

Inconceivable!

Who would you include in Wave 2?  We’d select Prince Humperdinck, Count Rugen, Miracle Max, Valerie, the Grandfather and the Grandson.  Although there’s enough for a Wave 3, with the Albino, the peasant woman who shouted “BOO” (aka the Ancient Booer), the Impressive Clergyman, and a Rodent of Unusual Size.
