Tron: Ares–Jeff Bridges’ Kevin Flynn returns in new trailer

When the original Disney movie Tron arrived in theaters in 1982 it was a technological innovation.  Jeff Bridges’ Kevin Flynn and Bruce Boxleitner’s Tron, a user and a program, interact in a fully realized alternate universe after Flynn is sucked into his own computer system.  Nearly thirty years later the Disney prequel comic Tron: Betrayal and the movie sequel Tron: Legacy revisited the computer world known as the Grid to show us what happened to Flynn and Tron.  That world continued in the video game Tron RUN/r, the animated series Tron: Uprising, and even a Disney theme park ride.

This year the story comes full circle in Tron: Ares.  Humans broke into the computer world, now the computers break into ours, right where Tron: Legacy left off–with the ISOs finding their way into the real world.  The movie stars Jared Leto, Evan Peters, Gillian Anderson, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Sarah Desjardins, and exactly what fans want: an appearance by Jeff Bridges.  (But no Bruce Boxleitner?  That’s Tron in the title, right?).  This first full trailer looks spectacular–Leto looks great and Evan Peters is perfect casting for the next Dillinger.  Plus music by Nine Inch Nails.
