The eagerly awaited sequel to the Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series, Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender comes to Paramount+ in only 10 days. Taking place 13 years after the series, fans of the franchise catch up with Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, Zuko, Appa and Momo, as Aang meets another Air Nomad and encounters a relic that may mean a future beyond his lonely existence as the Last Airbender. If you’re a fan of the original animated Nickelodeon series by Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino, or the new Netflix live-action series (discussed here at borg yesterday), or the earlier continuation series The Legend of Korra, which takes place 70 years after the original, get ready for an undiscovered era.

The film is directed by Lauren Montgomery with a screenplay by Tim Hedrick and Christopher Yost. You’ll notice lots of familiar voices in this mostly new cast: Eric Namis is Aang, Jessica Matten is Katara, Román Zaragoza is Sokka, Dionne Quan is Toph, Steven Yeun is Zuko, Keone Young is Roku, with Dee Bradley Baker returning as the ongoing voice behind Appa and Momo. New characters are voiced by Geraldine Viswanathan, Ronny Chieng, Peta Sergeant, and Freida Pinto, with Taika Waititi as a spirit, Ke Huy Quan as a former Avatar, Ken Jeong as a familiar cabbage merchant, and Dave Bautista as a new character with a past similar to Aang.
