It’s a good year for fans of 1970s and 1980s nostalgia. Soon you can take your classic Star Wars playsets and have Bruce Lee ride a Rancor into the Ewok village, or train on Dagobah with the Bionic Woman with V.I.N.C.E.N.T.′s help. Or see a Fembot drive a light cycle on the Grid, facing off against Willow and the Mandalorian, followed by a break at the Mos Eisley cantina. The possibilities are almost limitless. Toy company Super 7 has secured licenses for some of our favorite properties, and is pushing out some interesting figures and packaging in 2023 in the ever-building, classic Kenner-style 3 3/4-inch action figure line. The first for pre-order are available here at Entertainment Earth. The Tron line is the only one not available for ordering or pre-order yet–at least for now it’s a Disney Parks exclusive, but keep an eye out for an expansion into other markets in a few months like we’ve seen from other Super 7 ReAction line products.
While you’re waiting, a small series of The Bionic Woman are available here right now, and a Bruce Lee series is available here next month, along with new figures from The Black Hole here. Take a look at the figures and packaging below.
It’s not clear what will be in the full set of Tron’s first wave, but it looks like fans will finally see a Yori and Ram, plus the expected Tron and Sark, along with two Flynns, and a red guard. Three light cycles include Ram and a red cycle, Flynn in yellow, and Tron in orange. Why do they look so narrow, and where’s the blue cycle? That may be coming in a second wave, along with Clu, Dumont, Crom, another Flynn, another red soldier, and a disc warrior. A tank program and recognizer are so far only rumored to be in a possible second wave. The key for collectors will be Disney expanding the series beyond theme parks attendees, which represent only a slight fraction of Tron’s big fan base. You can also track down earlier versions from the movie over the years still available here at Amazon.
The Bionic Woman line features only two figures, Jaime Sommers and a Fembot.
But they look good for the ReAction series.
The Black Hole series consists of three figures: V.I.N.C.E.N.T., B.O.B., and Maximillian. For these figures the figures rise above their simple packaging.
It’s interesting that Super 7 is limiting this line to the robot characters.
Finally, you, too, can “Be Like Water” and pre-order these three figures commemorating actor, martial artist, and action hero Bruce Lee, which we previewed here at borg last year:
Although this is his most recognizable outfit:
It’s hard to beat this image on the card:
And here is a version with his jacket outfit:
The sculpts, especially for the series figures, look great, considering the Super 7 ReAction figure line is known more for nostalgia than exacting detail.
