Love Gun KISS album     Unmasked KISS LP

You Wanted the Best.  You Got the Best.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band KISS is known to everyone as one of the classic hard rock bands, but the band members are also unique as businessmen in their own right.  Probably second only to George Lucas the band created a marketing empire that no one has equaled.  In part due to their make-up and the fantasy world characters the real-life rockers created, the band’s financial success has never been better than today, and they are still rocking venues today more than 42 years after their first appearance.

Online superstore Entertainment Earth is offering limited, numbered quantities of a convention exclusive that was a big seller at San Diego Comic-Con last month–the KISS Alive II stage with action figures from toymaker Bif Bang Pow!  In the same vein as the retro-style, Kenner influenced action figures from the classic era of action figure toys, no KISS fan will want to miss out on this great playset.  It features adjustable rising stage platforms and a lit-up logo, plus a wireless speaker that allows you to literally rock-out the stage recreating one of KISS’s elaborate stage shows, plus it includes a page of fake tattoos like those that came with the band’s Alive II LP album.  The Starchild, Spaceman, Demon, and Catman figures are all included with instrument accessories.  Check out the Entertainment Earth website here to learn more and to order before the limited run is no longer available.

Flash Gordon 1980

Too much fun.  Yesterday we showed some previews of several new action figures being revealed by Funko at Toy Fair 2015 in New York City.  They’re all of the 3 3/4 retro Kenner-style, and we have another set of figures from the show but these are from toy company Bif Bang Pow!  This is the company that created The Twilight Zone retro action figures previewed here at borg.com earlier last week.

Those new figures hail from the 1980 fan favorite flick Flash Gordon.  The new line of figures includes nice sculpts of Sam Jones’s Flash, Timothy Dalton’s Prince Barin, Ornella Muti’s Princess Aura, Brian Blessed’s Prince Vultan, and Max Von Sydow’s Emperor Ming.  No Dale Arden figure has been revealed yet.

Billy Mumy You're a Very Bad Man   Anthony Fremont Its a Good Life Billy Mumy A

Two classic episodes of The Twilight Zone that consistently get rated in the top ten by fans will be featured in new action figures coming this year.  Toymaker Bif Bang Pow! has released new images of the next installment of their 1970s Kenner-inspired retro action figure line.

We first discussed the first wave of figures here at borg.com back in July 2014.  Three of the new figures are based on characters seen in the classic “Eye of the Beholder,” including Billy Mumy’s vile little boy Anthony from fan favorite episode “It’s a Good Life.”  And his accessory?  Erm… his neighbor turned-Jack-in-the-Box.  Oh, Anthony.  You’re a very bad little boy.  Yikes.

Donna Douglas, who passed away last month, and was known primarily for her role as Elly May Clampett on The Beverly Hillbillies, gets her image on an action figure finally.  Sort of.  She played the patient whose face was unwrapped to reveal her mutant image in a land of alien-faced folks in “Eye of the Beholder.”  The line of figures also includes the doctor and nurse from that episode.

Funko Reaction logo

Last week we reported on Funko CEO Brian Mariotti’s “12 Days of Christmas” daily blog posts revealing the company’s new product offerings for 2015.  This included the increasingly successful Kenner-inspired, ReAction retro action figure line, which has spread like wildfire now that the various lines are hitting the masses thanks to Barnes & Nobles carrying the products in stores.  Mariotti revealed last week that 2015 will see new action figure series for the original Star Trek, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Jaws, Terminator 2, The Dark Crystal, Gremlins, Breaking Bad, and Boondock Saints.

Today Mariotti revealed the rest of the licensed properties that will be turned into carded 3 3/4 inch action figures by the end of next year.  As we had hoped, one of those properties is John Carpenter’s Big Trouble in Little China.  But now we know of twelve others.

Green Blooded cloaked Predator SDCC 2014 Entertainment Earth variant SDCC 2014 Rocketeer black and white variant

Did you miss out on San Diego Comic-Con this year?  Taking the sting out of missing the big annual show, both Gentle Giant and Entertainment Earth are making their SDCC 2014 exclusives available to everyone.  Although a few items have already sold out, there are plenty of great busts and action figures that will provide something of interest for every sci-fi, superhero, and fantasy fan.  Click on any image above or below to go to the store listing for prices and availability.

Number One on our list of the coolest action figures of the year is the above variant Predator figure from Funko’s ReAction retro-action figure line.  We’ve seen one of these up close and not only is this a nicely constructed figure with great packaging, it looks like the character cloaked in the film and it comes with green blood splatter applied to the figure and even the box–splatter that was part of the plot of the movie and not just a sales gimmick.  This figure sold out fast, but don’t worry, you can pre-order now for its re-release.  After the break check out several variant retro-Kenner figures only available for a limited time, including Firefly’s Jayne Cobb and his famous hat, a Malcolm Reynolds with Browncoat.  Even new figures from The Twilight Zone of William Shatner and Burgess Meredith!

Rocket Raccoon SDCC 2013 Gentle Giant

The high point of the Gentle Giant exclusives is this great Rocket Raccoon bust that we previewed earlier at borg.com.  You can just hear Rocket ranting about something, gritting his teeth as he rescues the Guardians of the Galaxy team.

For retro fans, Gentle Giant has three other SDCC exclusives for sale.  Check out this two-foot tall Alien figure–inspired by the unreleased Kenner figure from the 1980s:

And how about the latest in Gentle Giant’s line of jumbo-sized classic Kenner Star Wars action figures, one of Kenner’s best, the AT-AT Driver from The Empire Strikes Back:

Jayne Cobb and Vera action figure Firefly Funko ReAction Retro Buffy the Vampire Slayer ReAction figure Funko

Funko’s classic Kenner style 3 and 3/4-inch ReAction series of action figures are sure to be a big focus at Sunday’s annual Toy Fair in New York, and we have a first look at the sculpts and packaging courtesy of Entertainment Earth.  We revealed the new Predator, Terminator, Escape from New York, Rocketeer, and The Nightmare Before Christmas figures here at borg.com last week, and we couldn’t be more excited about the rest of the line of 1980s style action figures.

The rest of the figures include Back to the Future, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Pulp Fiction, the Universal Monsters, Horror Classics, Goonies, and The Crow.

Some highlights can be found in the Firefly line.  Zoe’s sculpt looks particularly well done, Wash comes with his toy dinosaurs, and Jayne comes with his favorite weapon: Vera.  Oz from Buffy the Vampire Slayer comes with his guitar.  Hellraiser’s Pinhead comes with a tiny puzzle cube.  And Bruce Willis finally gets an action figure–his Pulp Fiction character is wearing his dad’s watch from the film.  Several characters are represented in the Pulp Fiction line, but no Christopher Walken, yet.  There’s no Xander from Buffy, either, or Josh Brolin’s character from Goonies, or a River or Simon for the Firefly line.

Each of these can be pre-ordered from Entertainment Earth at the early bird prices by clicking on the images below.  We’re betting this first line will be a big success and that Funko will move on to expand these lines and add more licensed properties in the future.  Check out these great series:
