Isn’t that Tina Fey? And isn’t that the girl from The Ring? Director and star Kenneth Branagh has built a movie franchise out of Agatha Christie novels like no one before. Although his impressive adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express in 2017 was a clear hit, his follow-up, Death on the Nile, didn’t have the same spark. But in his next adaptation, Branagh is changing up everything, including genre. He mines the more obscure of Christie’s catalog for his next movie, a lesser known novel from 1969 called Hallowe’en Party. Swapping the setting from England to Venice, Italy, A Haunting in Venice resembles the earlier entries only due to the presence of Branagh’s take on noted master detective Hercule Poirot. Beyond that, all bets are off.
Here for Comic-Con weekend, check out the next trailer for A Haunting in Venice:
A Haunting in Venice stars Branagh, plus a new round of suspects played by Kelly Reilly, Michelle Yeoh, Tina Fey, Kyle Allen, Camille Cottin, Amir El-Masry, and James Dornan–definitely not the all-star line-up of the previous two films.
Look for Kenneth Branagh’s A Haunting in Venice in theaters September 15, 2023.
