If you’ve read the Tom Clancy Jack Ryan novels, and seen the two movies starring Harrison Ford as Ryan, you’ll no doubt see the novel Debt of Honor in the new trailer for Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World. In Debt of Honor Jack Ryan’s White House work finds DC destroyed and Ryan as President of the United States, only movie audiences never saw Ford play that role since he only acted in Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger. The first trailer for Captain America: Brave New World conjures a lot–call it dystopic, it might as well be in the same genre as Furiosa and Mad Max (let’s hope these stories stay in the world of superhero fiction, right?). Ford plays the same Ross that the late William Hurt played, his daughter played by Liv Tyler way back in the second Hulk movie. She’s back on the cast list, with newcomers to the franchise Tim Blake Nelson and Giancarlo Esposito. Ross in the comics is also the Red Hulk.

Anthony Mackie is back as Captain America Sam Wilson, a role he began building back from the ashes of the Infinity War in the Disney series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. That series is worth a re-watch–it finds Sam earning the mantle after he first refuses it and it’s handed over to Wyatt Russell’s John Walker. The series doesn’t feel like the other super-powered showcases, but audiences can now see where it was all heading.
