At last–although Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock had an appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, a character from the Netflix Marvel series is getting a major role in an MCU movie: Jon Bernthal is bringing Frank Castle aka The Punisher to Spider-Man: Brand New Day. It’s been five years since we saw Tom Holland as Spider-Man in the mega-team-up that re-united the heroes and villains of Spidey’s past. But that left Peter Parker alone and an unknown to his friends and everyone else, just when it seemed like he was the likley choice to lead the Avengers into the future. In the first trailer for Spider: Man: Brand New Day, Peter is all serious, very much taking on his duties with the attitude of Captain America.

After all the chatter that Holland wouldn’t be back for another Spidey movie, does that mean this is his last, or will the MCU finally give fans a springboard into what’s next? Check out this trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day:
What will be the seventh appearance of Tom Holland as Spider-Man (since this takes place right after his sixth appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home), it looks like he won’t be joined by Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, or Jon Favreau as Happy, but Zendaya will be back as MJ, and Jacob Batalon is back as Ned. Sadie Sink is expected to make an appearance and Mark Ruffalo is back in the MCU as Bruce Banner. New to the series is director Destin Cretton. And composer Michael Giacchino is back with another Spidey score. Villains are expected to include Tarantula, Scorpion, Boomerang, and Tombstone.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives in theaters July 31, 2026.
