Max could have just been the next new kid at Riverdale High School. But when his backpack gets mixed-up with Jughead’s, Archie Andrews wants to know why he has an ID card that says “John Connor.” In a four-issue series set between the Terminator movies, writer Rory McConville and artists Steven Butler and Lily Butler take you back to the future, only the future is now. It’s today’s #1 real-life cautionary message that many people apparently didn’t get the first six…or eight… or ten times around (films, series, and comics): The only endgame for artificial intelligence is the end of everything. It all begins next week with the ultimate crossover in the pages of Archie vs. The Terminator. The first issue gets off to a perfect start with the artists using the OG style of Archie Comics to introduce John and Sarah Connor to Riverdale, where they continue to hide from the latest attack from a Terminator.

It’s one of those limited series that might sound like just a gimmick, but this project got into the right hands. John Connor as the new kid on the block is a natural fit to introduce the sci-fi franchise to Riverdale. Watch out, Betty & Veronica: You might want to duck if you’re going to throw a party for the new kid who doesn’t talk much. And when the Terminator arrives, you’re going to hear him talk with Arnold Schwarzenegger’s voice.
