Axel F–Eddie Murphy returns next summer in third Beverly Hills Cop sequel

It’s been forty years since we first met one of Eddie Murphy’s most popular creations: Axel Foley in 1984’s Beverly Hills Cop, 34 years since we last saw him in the less successful sequel, Beverly Hills Cop 2, and 30 years since even fewer moviegoers saw him in Beverly Hills Cop 3.  As much as it seems like Eddie Murphy has been away, he never really left, including movie appearances in hit series Shrek and The Nutty Professor, with major critical acclaim in Dolemite is My Name and a Christmas movie this season, Candy Cane Lane, worth watching only because it’s fun to watch Murphy react on the screen.  Like the big span between Coming to America and Coming 2 America, is there any doubt Murphy will make a hit out of a fourth adventure for the Beverly Hills Cop–especially with the success of throwbacks and 1980s nostalgia?

Here is the first trailer for next summer’s Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F:

It’s nice to see so many returning actors, including Paul Reiser, Bronson Pinchot, John Aston, and Judge Reinhold.  Who know who else may show up?  If you recall the original, you know key to the movie’s success was that Harold Faltermeyer soundtrack.  Lorne Balfe is stepping in to provide the tunes to this sequel.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is slated to arrive on Netflix Summer 2024.
