Retro fix — New vintage Tron movie action figures and lightcycles may be coming

By our count six waves of Tron action figures have been authorized by Disney since the film premiered in 1982.  The original issue from Tomy featured red-orange and yellow light cycles, and four figures: Tron, Flynn, Sark, and a Red Guard.  Twenty years later NECA re-released this set with the addition of a blue light cycle, found in Suncoast and Spencer Gifts stores.  A few years ago a 7-inch line was released by Diamond Select, followed by a Disney Parks exclusive set from toymaker Super7 that we discussed here at borg.  The lightcycles looked a bit squished in design, but the line did include Yori and Ram action figures.  Now HasLab is trying to push out the door a fifth series of action figures and lightcycles.  The prototypes all appear to be digitally designed so far–so we can’t be sure what the final result will look like.

Borrowing on the timing of a third Tron movie now in theaters, HasLab and Disney have released some details and photographs of the toys for the original Tron movie.

Officially called Tron: Heroes of the Grid 3.75-inch Collectors Set, the crowdfunded project will run from October 9, 2025, to 11:59PM ET on November 24, 2025.  If successful, the project is expected to begin shipping in December 2026.  Two days in and the project is nearly 10 percent funded.

It includes:

  • 1982 Tron movie collector set with USB-powered light-up Grid display base
  • Detailed 3.75″ Flynn, Yori, Sark, Program, and Tron action figures
  • Two lightcycles with “screen accurate” figure seating and removable light walls

The new addition for this line is a generic red Program figure.

The poses shown in initial photographs reflect removable hands, action elements, and other display features.

David Warner’s character Sark looks good in the initial design, although it doesn’t look so much like Warner.  The Flynn and Tron figures seem to try to emulate Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner.

Allowing the figures to lean forward into the lightcycles as in the movie is a nice touch.

As with the Disney Parks line of Super7 figures and lightcycles, this is a pricey set, requiring backers to commit $259.99.  Find out more information about the crowdfunding project at this link at the HasLab website.
