Happy New Year!
It’s that time again, time to take a look forward at what you want on your movie and TV radar for 2025. These are the shows from genredom we think borg readers will want to know about. In all we pulled 70 movies from the hundreds of films that have been finalized or are in varying stages of final production and slated for this year’s movie calendar–along with 40 TV series. Compare the below list to our 2024 list, 2023 list, 2022 list, 2021 list, 2020 list, 2019 list and even the 2018 list, 2017 list, 2016 list, 2015 list, or 2014 list, and you’ll see the number of big movies is shifting back toward theaters more than last year, although streaming TV series continue to dominate with great content via services like Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Max, and Paramount+.
The biggest and most anticipated series don’t have release dates yet: that’s new seasons of Strange New Worlds, Stranger Things, and Wednesday. Disney will be releasing two live-action adaptations of key properties with Snow White and Lilo & Stitch, and Warner Bros. will re-introduce the caped crusader in another Superman movie. But nothing beats Disney for continuing their barrage of movies and series: Fantastic Four: First Steps, Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts* and a sequel series Daredevil: Born Again look to be high points coming from its Marvel division. Both Disney and Netflix appear to dominate the year from every angle. A lot more horror fills the list this year, and movies with a darker vision. Some movies and TV series don’t have release dates but are expected in 2025, including an untitled Bosch spin-off and Starfleet Academy–or maybe we won’t see them until 2026. For Star Wars fans, there’s a new season of Andor, and for Star Trek fans a new called movie Section 31. Doctor Who is slated to return with a second season starring Ncuti Gatwa. We predict more fun will come with a new Wallace & Gromit feature, more good historical fare from a new season of All Creatures Great and Small, and via sequels… to big movies of the past like Tron and Predator, a series called Alien: Earth, and to more recent hits, like Blumhouse’s The Black Phone and Five Nights at Freddy’s. If done right, Tron: Ares could be the year’s big hit.
Grab your calendar and sit back for more than 50 trailers–here are All the Movies and TV Series You’ll Want to See in 2025:
